My Neglected Diary

This morning I made a promise to myself: to be selfish, think about noone but me...... Yeah, sounds selfish but that's the whole idea.

I have been worrying about everyone else and how everyone else is doing, what they will think, how they are going to react and quite frankly it has been very draining for me. It all stops NOW!

Laces and the holiday season

We did our cover shoot for afreetude yesterday (technically 2 days ago) and it went well. I must say I learnt a few things. Not about work though, but my relationship. Strange!

All through out the five-hour shoot I had nothing but lace on my mind. This holiday season I intend to celebrate in full colour, black and in lace. Of course with some flutes (no, not the musical instrument).

Hmm, Lace infused with my Yoruba and Fante heritage!!!

Je t'embrace,

Alima

p.s: today is a very special day for me. my 2011 has officially commenced.

Miss Ghana 2010

I designed ten outfits for the  'Highlife Section' of Miss. Ghana 2010 and should have shared pictures with you a while ago Thing is, I didn't know what to write (about the event, that is).

I know, a blog should be updated regularly......should be my diary.........
I am going through a beautiful process right now and one part of me would love to finish the transition before it is shared and the other part knows, this is the real reason why I have a blog: to share them all as they do happen.

And as of this day, I promise to let you know it all. You shall hear from me tomorrow. Until then, here are my ten pieces for the Miss. Ghana 2010 finale.

love,
Alima

My Big Yellow Book

A lot has happened since I last updated my blog (mind you I started this piece on 27/08/2010)..... I am terribly sorry for neglecting you.
I insist on writing in a book before putting any post up here (I have been described as an old soul at heart) and unfortunately I run out of books to write in which meant I couldn't update. :(
I was on a quest to find a fancy book for myself when my new dear friend (wont mention any names) promised me one covered in moleskin, I think. Now I can't remember. She never did and that prolonged my quest. Alas, I have found the one. She's a yellow fabric covered woodless paper book (I get to be fancy and still help to conserve some tress too).......

Wonderful things are happening, good people.... afreetude (our digital magazine) is shaping up. BTW, if you haven't heard of it please go to afreetude magazine on FB and do follow afreetude on twitter.  Will share some more info on this great feeling in later posts. In the meantime, I do have some behind the scenes photos for you.

Yours truly, Bello, will be designing evening gowns for Miss. Ghana 2010 finale. whoop whoop!!! Keep visiting the blog to have some sneak peaks.

oh, I finally cut the perm of my hair somewhere in July and I'm loving it!!!!! Now the million dollar question is, "to twist or not to twist?" lol.

My darling, Miss Cleland, I saw you in a wicked flirty dress one fine Friday night and I want one too!!

I will end here for now and let the few pics I have do the talking.

There's so much to share with you all.

much love,
alima

My Ever Growing List

Over the past week I have been going over in my head  items of necessity (in my opinion) that will make 2010 a fab year. In no particular order (save for item #8) which should come in between each item to stress it's importance. Here goes:
1. new tennis shoes
2. red lipstick
3. red nail polish
4. boyfriend jeans
5. black flat sandals
6. gold flat sandals
7. a dozen white tees
8. an ipad
9. a wig (yes, a wig with a deadly razor-cut bob)
10. hand sewing machine
11. a super uber to-die-for tote
*** this list keeps on growing and be sure an updated one will be up shortly.

Aimless because.......

I paid my aunt a visit over the weekend and she and her her older brother concluded that I am aimless because:
1. I have decided to ditch an MBA programme this year to pursue my designing.
2. I left a 'regular' job without consulting them.
3. I refused an offer from them to get a customer service job in a big telecommunication company.
4. I sat on a bike for an out of city ride - how could I have done that?

Clearly, my Dad must be a very irresponsible parent because he supported every reason listed up there (ok, save for the forth which he said he was not too happy about).

It's safe to say that my aunt and uncle are very conservative and are not risk takers. OMG, i shudder to think what they will say when they see me with my permed hair all cut off and with a tattoo!! They do not understand that my path and happiness will not and can not be determined by material possessions....

To all you out there, all I say is if there's anything that interests you go ahead and go get it! Life is too short to be determined by the labels of family and friends. Be yourself!!!
